Wedding Photography Tips

Capturing beautiful images on your big day is an essential part of the wedding itself.  And to make sure that the photographs come out the way you want them, here are a few tips.

Choose a wedding photographer who gets your ideas.    Wedding photography is different from regular photo shoots, so consider photographers who can show you a great wedding photography portfolio.  Explain what you have in mind with images too.  Choose a photographer who is open to your ideas and is always willing to consult with you.

Do not be afraid to ask questions and take note of the answers. Ask how long it will take to edit your photographs and about the entitlements of each wedding photography package that they offer.  The contract is also an important document so read it carefully.

Take Engagement Photos.  Consider this session a trial shoot for the wedding.  Wedding photography relies on the photographer’s ability to visualize and capture special moments, the skill to direct certain “scenes” and how he or she interacts with his subjects.  An engagement photo shoot is a great way for the photographer to show all these qualities for your evaluation.
Try to keep to the photographer’s schedule.  This is important because wedding package rates are based per hour.  Make sure everyone in your entourage knows this so they do not go wandering off before the scheduled group shots are done.  Discuss possible bridal shots /poses and specific spots prior to the wedding so that the sessions go smoothly.  Lighting is also important and if you plan a sunset photo remember that the sunset will not wait for you.

Get to know your wedding photographer.  It is easier to communicate when you have a friendly relationship with the people involved in your wedding.  This is especially important for the wedding photographer.   It is easier to communicate and relay ideas and thoughts when you are comfortable with one another.

Make sure your photographer is taken cared of on the wedding day. Sometimes, photographers have to travel to get to weddings.  If this is the case with you, make sure that the photographer and his/her team has great accommodations.  How they perform during your wedding will also depend on how great they feel, so be nice and take care of them.

Finally, Trust and Communication is Key.  After all is discussed and planned, enjoy and relax on your special day and trust your wedding photographer to do his job well.
